Live for the Givah! Volume II is a great way to show talent through a cappella voices. Ramacapella is a group of campers and staff at Camp Ramah in Ojai California. The music is a mix of different traditional Jewish compositions, Israeli modern songs and remakes of American songs. There are two different sessions of campers and each one has the sound that shows people that you don’t need background music to have a good sounding outcome. The different harmonies in the songs show the purity in the voices. There are songs that you can just relax to and there are others that are very upbeat and feel like you can dance to them.
Besides the Ramacapella group, there is also the 8th grade band from both sessions. The talent at such a young age is unbelievable. As first session performed the song Al Haritspah, which means on the floor. The small electric guitar solo is pretty good. It is very difficult to perform a song in a different language. The second session group did Hashachen. The song had been remade well. Both of these groups did a good job in learning a song in a different language in a short amount of time.
The next age up is Etgar band which is still very talented. They are a group of 9th/10th graders. They chose and preformed the two songs each session. One song in Hebrew and one song in English. Session one preformed a rap political song in Hebrew. The other song that they preformed was Sweet Child of Mine by Guns N’ Roses. It wasn’t as good as the original but it was still ok. It is fun to sing along to. The second session Etgar band was good. The singer’s voice was not that great but the band was really good especially the guitar solo in Achlom Lanetsach. The other song that they did was Knocking on Heaven’s Door by Guns N’ Roses. The band members really worked together to make this song work.
Overall, this CD is a great! The different voices really stand out and true talent shines through. Starting with Ramacapella with their solid sound of beautiful voices to rap in Hebrew. If you are someone that is interested in music that is song by people all ages, this is an album for you.
